Joseph Soares, an author and Professor at Wake Forest University and David Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., a renowned psychiatrist, researcher, spiritual lecturer and mystic offer more evidence against the tests in their book “SAT wars- The Case for Test-Optional College Admissions”. Soares and Hawkins discuss the negative impact that the heavy weight of standardized tests places on society and go on to explain how standardized tests are unreliable and inconsistent predictors of intelligence, largely because of the socioeconomic biases that come with these tests. The authors claim that the test optional policy adopted by Wake Forest University has proven that “there is an inverse relationship between the weight placed on high-stake test scores and the diversity of an applicant pool and matriculating class.” The authors also address the fact that there a numerous qualities that standardized tests fail to asses by testing students in only English and Math.
